The Hicaz railway which only served passengers for a mere 12 years has a sad story behind it. Sultan Abdulhamit II’s attempts to improve political and economic integration of the distant lands under the Ottoman rule came to an abrupt halt with the Arab revolt of 1916. On July 8, drs. Mehmet Tütüncü will give a detailed lecture about the history of the Hicaz railway at CPD, The Hague.
